Flash Flood Wipes Out Up to 40 Homes in Nepal’s Gorkha
The surge struck early in the day, devastating the Chumnubri and Dharche rural municipalities. It swept away homes, bridges and infrastructure at a hydropower project, flooded settlements and left more houses in danger, a Nepali daily newspaper reported.
Home Minister Sudan Gurung said the floodwaters also destroyed the bridge connecting Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar in Chumnubri-3.
Helicopters were deployed for rescue missions, relief distribution and evacuations as river levels kept climbing. Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and local authorities were also sent to the area to lead rescue and relief efforts.
Officials are still investigating the full extent of the damage and the cause of the disaster. Gorkha Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra said preliminary reports pointed to a landslide above Siuribas. He said no casualties had been reported.
Authorities used loudspeakers to alert residents along the river and urge them to move to higher ground.
