Charge gets filed by victims of fatal rallies over Nepal’s ousted PM
(MENAFN) The relatives of four individuals killed during recent protests in Nepal have lodged a police complaint against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, reports indicate.
The complaint has been referred to a judicial inquiry commission investigating the incidents that occurred during youth-led protests on September 8 and 9. Last month, Nepal’s interim government announced the formation of the commission to probe nationwide demonstrations that resulted in 75 deaths and led to the ousting of the elected government.
The commission is tasked with examining killings, acts of arson, and vandalism that took place during the Gen Z-led protests. Police Superintendent Pawan Bhattarai, spokesman for the District Police Range, explained that “Since these fall within the commission's jurisdiction, per the Home Ministry's decision, no action will be taken through regular mechanisms. Therefore, we forward all information there. We have also received the complaint that came today and sent it to the commission.”
According to Bhattarai, the complaint alleges that Oli and Lekhak committed crimes against humanity as well as crimes against the state, noting that offenses classified as crimes against humanity are not currently included in Nepal’s National Criminal Code.
